lesson learned
I thought I was being a big ol’ baby about my mysterious bug bites (that have since been determined to be spider in origin) but lo, I was not. After an absolutely miserable night I made an early doctor appointment and was expecting my lovely doc to send me on my merry way with some anti-itch cream but it turns out I have a skin infection because spiders can carry infectious diseases (ew. who...

home alone on saturday night making yogurt
because I’ve done enough damage to my liver this week already and I’d like to delay the bad decision making a bit. Also, I was out of yogurt.

feelings about celebrities, I have them
Lots of them. I’m embarrassed by how many. I just wanted to let y’all know that so you can be grateful that I keep them to myself and off the internet. That is all.

I don't understand it either
Most of my patron are scientists and occasionally it comes up that I have a Masters of Library Science and they want to how exactly science comes into being a librarian and I just sort of shrug and try to get them to move away from my desk. I mean, I suppose maybe I can understand the general idea of librarianism as a science but it certainly doesn’t have anything to do with my job.

I just had my first legit bad Ikea experience
Things were going great- they had everything I on my list and there were only a couple kids running around like little banshees- and then I went to checkout and they wouldn’t let me buy one of my items and the cashier was really rude and it was awful. Now I’m home, sitting on my floor with my cat, eating fried chicken, watching Criminal Minds and trying not to cry again. I feel so...

dear librarians of the Internet:
Do you find that your libraries are populated by people with an alarming tendency to get stuck on pointless minutia and technicalities at the cost of actually getting shit done? Or is it just my library?

lunch of judgement
I got stuck next to two chicks on what I was pretty sure was one of those “information interviews” at lunch today and it was just the worst. One was a high school chick who seriously needs to take better care of her skin (she had like thirty-something smoker’s skin. it was bad) and the other was a college chick who was explaining the ways of the world to her. I was quietly...

Head of Reference: Someone should take care of this MacDonald request.
Me: I took care of that before I left yesterday. She was very appreciative.
Head: We should scan the report and send it to her.
Me: I did. Yesterday.
Head: Well, we have a pdf of it.
Me: Right. I made that. Yesterday.
Head: We've got a copy of it over here.
Me: I know. I emailed it to Reference. Yesterday.
Head: Well I hope she appreciates the effort.
Me: She does.

and so the panic begins
My mama is coming to visit me exactly two weeks from today and somehow in that time I need to lose five pounds and get my apartment, car and life in perfect order (or at least less messy) and if possible also land a new job and an awesome boyfriend. Totally doable, right? RIGHT?

silly dilemma of the day
I’m going to a thing tonight with a guy friend and I need to look nice because his coworkers will be there and I don’t want to embarrass them but not too nice because I don’t want people to think that this is a date (or that I think this is a date) because they know his girlfriend. It’s all too much for my little overworked, started-drinking-at-lunch brain to handle.

things I did last night after taking NyQuil
agreed to attend a play tonight. which play, I don’t know. cut my bangs ate an entire container of raspberries left my mom a rambling but very loving message made a very long and very detailed To Do list I only remember some of these things. Fortunately, by some miracle, I regret none of them. Yet.

I have 10,000 things to get done today plus an epic meeting to go to* and I need to leave by 4:30 at the latest so I can make it to a happy hour followed by a library school alumni meetup and make it to a play** by 8pm. I’m gonna need more coffee. A lot more coffee. *scheduled for two hours, guaranteed to run long **that I agreed to attend while hopped up on NyQuil last night

lunch meetings should involve free lunch....
They should not involve: bringing your own lunch running really long your big boss not answering the question “will we have jobs in July?” repeatedly. In related news, fuck today.

“Having a good Valentine’s Day, huh? Me too.”
– the rather wry checkout lady at PetSmart as I was buying a $30 bag of cat food for my very picky, slightly overweight kitty boy at 9pm last night. I had been planning on buying myself a pizza and a six pack on the way home to celebrate my singleness but she sort of took the wind out of my sails.

ben: is that a hula hoop?
me: yup
ben: why do you have a hula hoop?
me: because they're awesome.
ben: no, really, why do you have a hula hoop?
me: BECAUSE THEY'RE AWESOME!
ben: ok... but is this like a thing? are hula hoops a thing now?
